Quick French Toast Roll Ups Recipe

The french toast roll ups are delicious American-style rolls that are quick and easy to make, prepared with white bread and filled with hazelnut spread. A clever recipe that’s quite popular on the web and social media, reminiscent of classic french toast. In short, they are delicious treats made with sandwich white bread, usually spread with hazelnut cream. Then they are rolled up, dipped in beaten eggs with milk, and cooked in a pan with a pat of butter.

It’s true they’re not very light, but it’s okay to indulge once in a while. You can replace the spread with jam or yogurt cream. Perfect for breakfast or as a snack for the whole family, and ideal for a Sunday brunch if filled with ham and cheese in a savory version. Ingredients

  • 6 slices white bread (for sandwiches)
  • 2.1 oz hazelnut spread
  • 1 egg
  • 7/8 cup milk
  • 3 tbsps butter
  • hazelnut spread (to taste)
  • hazelnuts (to taste)

Tools

  • Rolling pin
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • Pan
  • Bowl

Steps

  • First, flatten the bread slices using a rolling pin. I used sandwich bread, but regular white bread will do just fine. Then spread a teaspoon of hazelnut spread over the entire surface and roll the slices tightly into rolls.

Mix the egg with the milk in a bowl and dip the rolls one at a time on all sides. Melt a pat of butter in a non-stick pan and cook the french toast rolls for 2 or 3 minutes over low heat, turning them to cook evenly on all sides.

preparation of the french toast roll ups
  • Arrange the toast rolls on a plate and decorate with more hazelnut spread melted for a few seconds in the microwave and chopped hazelnuts.

Variations and Tips

French roll ups are best enjoyed fresh, but if any are left over, they can be stored in the fridge for a day in a container with a lid.

You can also fill the french toast with Greek yogurt and cocoa cream, or with ricotta and chocolate chips. A great alternative for decoration can be powdered sugar or maple syrup and fresh fruit.
