Ingredients
- 8.8 oz Sliced Bread (5 slices)
- Mayonnaise (a jar of about 14 oz)
- 10.6 oz Mixed Vegetables, steamed
- 6 slices Cooked Ham (about 5.3 oz)
- 6 slices Emmentaler
- 7.1 oz Fresh Spreadable Cheese
- Walnuts (about ten)
Preparation
First, prepare your super quick Russian salad! For this quick version, you’ll need a vegetable salad cooked in steam.
Open the cans, rinse the vegetables under water and let them drain. If you prefer to make your Russian salad, below you’ll find the longer version 😉
Put the boiled vegetables in a bowl, add a few tablespoons of mayonnaise, mix well, and if necessary, add more mayonnaise until you get a creamy mixture.
Now place the slices of bread one on top of the other, overlapping by about 0.4 inches (see photo). Flatten them with your fingers to make them adhere well and facilitate rolling.
Spread the quick Russian salad over the entire surface, lay the slices of ham on top, and finish with slices of cheese (you can use any cheese you prefer).
Now roll the sandwich slices gently (place the slice on a sheet of food wrap to help you).
Don’t worry if the slices tend to open during this phase, it’s normal. Just try to press the edges together as much as possible with your fingers.
Make a tight roll and wrap it in food wrap. Close the ends as if it were a candy. Let it rest in the fridge for about a couple of hours.
After the time has passed, take the log and cut a piece not too big, place it next to the roll to give it a log shape.
Then cut a slice not too thick and lay it on top (see photo).
Now prepare the filling for the coating. Blend the spreadable cheese with the walnuts using a hand blender and cover the entire log with this cream.
With the tines of a fork, create the effect of veins on the entire surface without pressing the fork in.
And there you go, your beautiful and delicious savory log is ready to be enjoyed! Until the next recipe!

The vegetables to use are the classic potatoes, carrots, and peas. The weight of the vegetables is 300 grams, so divide it between them.
Peel the potatoes, wash them under water and boil them whole without cutting them in plenty of salted water. Once cooked, drain and let them cool.
Do the same with the carrots. Peel and wash them, boil them whole in salted water (about 8 minutes) and once ready, let them cool.
Finally, cook the frozen peas in boiling salted water (about 6-7 minutes) and then let them cool.
Once the vegetables are boiled, let them cool first and then cut them into small dice. If you prefer, you can boil them the night before, leave them in the fridge, and cut them the next day.
Then put the vegetables in a bowl, add a small can of corn, if you like, and the mayonnaise.
Mix until you get a nice soft cream and then fill and proceed as indicated above.
