Shall We Make Ginger Snowflakes?
3 2 1 let’s go… Ginger snowflakes with sugar glaze and coconut
I wanted to modify the recipe from my ginger shortcrust. I made snowflakes
every year my best friend sends me ginger cookies, in northern countries they are very popular and delicious
I removed the chocolate and added coconut.
In my heart, ginger plays the leading role; I love chestnut honey, cinnamon, and nutmeg as they are scents of my childhood. Even though ginger cookies were unknown in Calabria, these aromas are used in the region’s traditional Christmas sweets
like in other southern Italian regions
they are cookies full of flavor and aroma

Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup butter
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp ground ginger (1 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg)
- 1 tbsp chestnut honey
- 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar (with a little warm water and two drops of lemon)
Tools
Snowflake-shaped cookie cutter, bowl or stand mixer for kneading, piping cone for the glaze
Steps
Put all ingredients in a bowl or stand mixer and knead quickly. Form a dough ball and roll it out to a thickness of about 1/8 inch
Cut out the snowflakes and let them rest in the fridge while you finish the dough. Preheat the oven to 350°F. They will be ready in about 15 minutes
Once out of the oven, prepare the glaze with powdered sugar, very little water, and lemon.
You should get a fluid mixture, but not too much.
Start decorating the snowflakes as shown in the photo
Or cover them entirely; I preferred to make the designs with white glaze, you choose the color. Finally, I sprinkled a little desiccated coconut, it pairs well with ginger and creates a nice snow effect. Continue until done.
Ginger snowflakes are delicious, you can also cover them with chocolate glaze, just add some sweet cocoa powder to the powdered sugar, in the proportion of 50 percent of the sugar weight
