Preparation of chocolate and caramel bars

To prepare these bars, we can also plan a little in advance and prepare the biscuit base a few hours (or even the day) before. In this case, set it aside wrapped in aluminum foil.

  • Let’s start by preparing the cookies: in a bowl (or with the stand mixer if you have one), put in the flour and cold butter chunks, add the sugar, and start mixing. As the butter warms up, it will combine with the dry ingredients and we will get a soft dough which we will wrap in parchment paper and let rest in the fridge for about 20 minutes.

  • Take the dough back, line the baking pan with parchment paper and spread the dough for the cookies with the help of your hands, then to have it all the same thickness pass it with a spatula to level it, we should get a block of dough about 0.4 inches high.

  • Bake at 320°F in static mode and cook for about 20 minutes, our cookies should just color slightly and once baked let them cool.

  • Meanwhile, prepare the caramel sauce, take a microwave-safe container and pour in the condensed milk, now put it to cook in the microwave at 600 W for about 2 minutes, then stir and continue like this at one-minute intervals until it becomes creamy. A warning: during microwave cooking, be careful that the condensed milk does not spill out of the container and make a mess… don’t do as I did because the time lost cleaning and calming the nerves was not little 😀

  • Pour the caramel sauce onto the biscuit base, level it well, and put it in the fridge to rest for about 20 minutes to allow it to set.

  • Now take our block and with the help of a sharp knife cut the bars into pieces about 0.4 inches wide and about 2 inches long.

  • Melt the chocolate in the microwave, I break it into small pieces and put it in the microwave at 600 W for about 5 seconds, then stir and continue like this in small intervals until it is completely melted.

  • Now gently dip our caramel cookies in the melted chocolate, turning them gently with the help of two forks and then place them on a tray covered with parchment paper.

  • Let our bars rest in the fridge to allow the chocolate to solidify and then we can enjoy them in all their goodness. A final warning: hurry up to taste them because if others arrive before you, it’s hard to find any left 😀
