The recipe for making the soft Sicilian cassata tart is very simple, ideal if you are looking for a holiday dessert, you will need simple ingredients that you may already have at home.

Flour, eggs, butter, and sugar for the pastry and ricotta with sugar and chocolate for the filling, it’s delicious, it melts in your mouth.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 9 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • Half packet baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 1/2 cups ricotta
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup chocolate (or chocolate chips)
  • 2 tbsp candied fruits
  • 1 tbsp orange juice

Steps

  • Pour the flour into a bowl, add the baking powder, sugar, egg, and butter in pieces, work the ingredients until you get a smooth mixture.

  • Wrap it in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 30 minutes or in the freezer for 15 minutes.

  • After the time is up, take the dough out of the fridge and roll it out on a floured surface, place it in a 9-inch tart pan, creating a 3/4-inch border.

  • Prick with a fork and bake at 350°F for 25 minutes.

  • Remove from the oven and let the pastry shell cool.

  • In a bowl, pour the drained ricotta and sugar, chop the chocolate with a knife and add it to the ricotta, add a tablespoon of orange juice and mix.

  • Remove the shell from the oven, place the ricotta in a pastry bag and fill the tart.

  • Decorate with candied fruits and refrigerate until serving.
