Quick Mortadella Quilt

Roll out thinly and fill, then draw a grid and bake in the oven. The quick mortadella quilt is ready in just over 30 minutes, perfect for dinner or as a delicious and tasty appetizer.

The quick mortadella quilt recipe can be made with dough by hand or with a mixer, ideal if you’re looking for a tasty snack for a birthday party, crispy outside and soft inside.

Also delicious with ham and stracchino, alla pizzaiola, or with salmon.

Quick Mortadella Quilt

Ingredients

  • 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 6.76 fl oz water
  • 2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • 5.3 oz mortadella with pistachios
  • 3.5 oz provola cheese

Steps

  • Pour the flour into a bowl or mixer, add the oil and water, and knead well.

  • Work the dough until smooth, then roll it out and form a rectangle of 9.8 x 13.8 inches.

  • Fill half of the dough with slices of mortadella and provola pieces or slices, then fold the other half over the filling and seal the edges.

  • Draw a grid of 12 or 15 pieces, bake in a preheated oven at 390°F for 20 minutes.

  • Remove from the oven and cut the savory pie following the drawn lines.

You can use puff pastry if you prefer or shortcrust pastry and fill it, it’s a great fridge-cleaner, perfect with ham, salami, ricotta, and provola, stracchino or zucchini, eggplants, mushrooms, obviously you can vary with seasonal vegetables.
