Chocolate salami without eggs and alcohol is a delicious dessert loved by both adults and children, and it’s really easy to prepare.
The recipe I’m offering is particularly suitable for children, as it contains neither eggs nor alcohol. Moreover, it’s an excellent method to use up any leftover chocolate that might be in your pantry, especially after the holidays.
To enhance its already delicious taste, I add toasted hazelnuts and a sprinkle of orange zest, which gives it a pleasant and natural aroma that perfectly matches the chocolate.
You can make it involving the kids in its simple preparation that doesn’t even require the use of the oven.
The kids will have a blast helping you; the only problem will be convincing them to wait the necessary time for the sweet salami to solidify in the fridge.
I still remember when I was little, at the sweet fair held annually at the Convent School I attended, I always bought slices of Turkish salami (as we knew it then).
In fact, my mother didn’t know the recipe, so the only time I got to enjoy it was at that much-anticipated sweet fair, whose proceeds the Sisters then donated to charity.

Ingredients
- 2 cups dry biscuits
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3.5 oz dark chocolate
- 2.8 oz milk chocolate (whatever you have at home)
- 1/2 cup toasted hazelnuts (and shelled)
- 1/3 cup milk
- orange zest (from one grated orange)
- to taste fine salt
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for decoration)
Tools
- Blender / Mixer
Steps
For preparing the chocolate salami without eggs and alcohol, chop the toasted hazelnuts in the mixer after removing the skin.
Chop not too finely.
Put the cookies in a freezer bag and crush them coarsely with a rolling pin or a bottle.
Melt the butter over very low heat, turning off the heat as soon as it starts to melt. If after a few minutes you notice that the butter hasn’t melted completely, turn the heat back on for a very short time.
Melt the chocolate in a bain-marie.
In a bowl, combine the sugar, a few grates of untreated orange zest (since it has an intense aroma, just add a few grates), the chopped hazelnuts, salt, cocoa, and crushed cookies.
Stir with a spoon.
Then add the melted and slightly cooled butter, the milk, and the melted chocolate, stirring until you have a homogeneous mixture.
Transfer everything onto a large plate and compact it with your hands, shaping it into a salami.
On a sheet of parchment paper, spread the sifted powdered sugar and roll the chocolate salami in it to coat it evenly.
At this point, close the parchment paper, wrapping it tightly around the dessert, and place it on a tray in the fridge for about 3 hours.
After this time, sprinkle more powdered sugar on the dessert and if desired, decorate with kitchen twine to give it the typical salami appearance, even in the details.
The chocolate salami without eggs and alcohol is ready to be enjoyed.
Let it soften a few minutes before slicing, and remember not too thin!
