American Hamburger Buns Recipe

The American hamburger buns recipe, or burger buns, helps you make those soft buns that are traditionally used in America to hold hamburgers.

Making them at home is easy, and the result will surprise you with its fragrance and softness, nothing like the pre-packaged ones.

For this recipe, you don’t need to use a mixer; you can easily knead by hand. Your effort will be well rewarded, as the quality of your buns will really make a difference.

Besides hamburgers, these buns can also be filled with deli meats. The contrast between the slightly sweet hint of these buns and the salty taste of cold cuts or cheese is really pleasant.

Also, try them for breakfast with butter and jam; they’re really great!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Manitoba flour
  • 0.85 cup water (lukewarm)
  • 0.25 cup sugar (granulated)
  • 2 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 2 eggs (medium)
  • 1.5 tsp dry yeast
  • 1.5 tsp fine salt
  • to taste sesame seeds

Tools

  • Baking Sheet for oven
  • Silicone Brush
  • Bowl

Preparation

  • For the American hamburger buns recipe (burger buns), start by warming the water.

In a separate bowl, combine the sifted flours, sugar, oil, dry yeast, egg, and gradually add the lukewarm water, starting to knead by hand.

After a few minutes, add the fine salt and knead for about ten minutes.

Once you have a plastic and homogeneous dough, flour a bowl preferably made of glass, place the dough inside, cover it with a damp cloth (that doesn’t smell of detergent), and let it rise in the oven with the light on for about a couple of hours.

If your oven doesn’t keep the light on independently of other commands, you can preheat the oven to 122 degrees Fahrenheit.

Then turn it off and put the dough to rise by placing the bowl on a rack in the middle of the oven.

When the dough is well risen, form buns of about 3.2 oz each.

With the recipe’s quantities, you’ll get 9 buns of this size.

Place the buns well apart on baking paper laid on a baking sheet.

Let them rise in the same way previously indicated, for about 45 minutes.

  • After this time, in a small bowl, beat a yolk with a few teaspoons of egg white, take the tray with the risen burger buns out of the oven, and preheat the oven to 356 degrees Fahrenheit, static mode.

With a silicone brush, glaze the entire surface of the buns and then sprinkle each with a pinch of sesame seeds.

Bake in the already hot oven, in static mode, for about 12 minutes on the middle-low rack. Then raise the baking sheet one level and continue baking for another couple of minutes.

In the end, they should be golden both at the base and on the surface.

Let the buns cool on a rack.

Once completely cool, store them in a food bag, and to renew their fragrance, heat them before consuming.

The American hamburger buns recipe or burger buns has thus been completed.

Welcome to my blog "lericettediminu". I am Carmen D'Angelo, a Sicilian with a great love for cooking. I particularly enjoy making desserts, where I can best express my personal inclination not only for taste but also for beauty. It was my mother, Enza, who passed her passion for cooking on to me, and I try to honor her teachings by always striving to improve and deepen my knowledge. I am not a professional in the field, but having cooked since I was a child and read extensively on the subject, I believe I have gained a certain experience through practice. I am a wife and a mother in love with her family, and I created this blog to virtually welcome anyone who wishes to join me within the walls of my kitchen, which to me is a true treasure trove of flavor and emotions.
