Matcha Christmas Tree Cookies

The Matcha Christmas Tree Cookies are cute little trees made with Japanese matcha shortcrust pastry and filled with melted white chocolate. The cookies maintain their typical green even when baked.

Tasty and visually appealing, they will surprise your guests to whom you can say you used no coloring to make them.

To join the various cookies together, there is a dollop of white chocolate melted in a double boiler, an operation that can be worrying due to the greater difficulty of melting white chocolate compared to dark chocolate.

However, follow my suggestions and you’ll see it will be easier than you expect.

Matcha Christmas Tree Cookies
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Rest time: 2 Hours
  • Preparation time: 40 Minutes
  • Portions: 12
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp matcha green tea powder
  • 7 tbsp butter (cold)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • to taste salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 1/2 tsp milk
  • 2 1/2 oz white chocolate (preferably for baking)
  • to taste candied cherries (red and green)
  • to taste jam (red fruits)

Tools

  • Rolling Pin
  • 3 Cookie Cutters round, with diameters of 2 inches, 1.4 inches, and 1 inch
  • Cutter star-shaped, 1 inch
  • Baking Tray
  • Piping Bag with a small round or star tip

Preparation

  • To prepare the matcha shortcrust Christmas Tree Cookies, combine the flour, sugar, powdered tea, sifted baking powder, and salt in a bowl.

Work them by hand or in a stand mixer with the butter cut into pieces.

Then add the egg yolk and knead until you get a firm and homogeneous dough.

Wrap in plastic wrap and let rest in the refrigerator for about two hours.

  • Roll out with a rolling pin, between two sheets of parchment paper, using a little flour on top and underneath the dough.

Cut out three different sizes of circles and a small star for each little tree. Bake at 340°F for about 10 minutes, static oven, middle rack.

    Let cool.

Meanwhile, place a tall pot filled with about three fingers of water on the stove.

Immediately place a smaller one inside it, whose base does not touch the water below, and melt the white chocolate chopped into flakes in it.

Do not stir and do not cover.

When the water starts to boil, turn off the heat.

Turn on the heat again for a few minutes on low, only if the chocolate has not completely melted.

Remove the small pot from the large pot and wait for the chocolate to cool a little.

Then, by spoonfuls, place it in a piping bag with a small round or star tip, and starting from the largest cookie, place a small dollop of chocolate in the center of each of them.

When it has just thickened, stack the discs and assemble the tree.

To make our little trees resemble Christmas trees even more, decorate the edges of the cookies with dots of red fruit jam and drizzles of melted chocolate on which to place pieces of candied cherries.

The Matcha Christmas Tree Cookies are now ready.

Welcome to my blog "lericettediminu". I am Carmen D'Angelo, a Sicilian with a great love for cooking. I particularly enjoy making desserts, where I can best express my personal inclination not only for taste but also for beauty. It was my mother, Enza, who passed her passion for cooking on to me, and I try to honor her teachings by always striving to improve and deepen my knowledge. I am not a professional in the field, but having cooked since I was a child and read extensively on the subject, I believe I have gained a certain experience through practice. I am a wife and a mother in love with her family, and I created this blog to virtually welcome anyone who wishes to join me within the walls of my kitchen, which to me is a true treasure trove of flavor and emotions.
