Sicilian-style pasta with broccoli, raisins, and pine nuts, with an almost impossible sweet-savory contrast, but trust me, it’s super delicious. Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean we stop cooking or eating, absolutely not. In fact, we crave something green that’s not meat or fish but still tasty. Today I offer you a typical dish from traditional Sicilian peasant cuisine, pasta with broccoli, which are actually cauliflowers. In fact, in Sicily, we Sicilians call them broccoli and prepare them with bucatini and lots of toasted bread crumbs, that is, roasted or toasted in a pan without anything, some add oil and salt, which are not bad at all.

Ingredients for Preparing Sicilian-Style Pasta with Broccoli
- 12 oz cauliflower
- 6 oz bucatini
- 2 tbsps pine nuts
- 1.5 tbsps raisins
- 4 anchovies in oil
- 2 tbsps extra virgin olive oil
- 1.5 tsps salt
- 1 chili pepper
- 1 tbsp bread crumbs
Tools
- Frying Pan
- Pot
Steps
A very simple recipe, divide the cauliflower into florets and soak them in cold water for a few minutes. Boil some water and salt it, then add the cauliflower for 7 minutes after rinsing it a couple of times. After the time has elapsed, drain the cauliflower florets and save the cooking water. In the frying pan, brown the chopped onion with the anchovies, concentrate, and chili pepper if you like. Add a ladle of cooking water, raisins, and blanched cauliflower florets, stir and cook for 10 minutes, just the time it takes to cook the bucatini, which you will cook in the water mentioned above.
Still al dente, stir the spaghetti in the pan with raw extra virgin olive oil and the cauliflower sauce, which for us Sicilians become broccoli, at least that’s what we call them. Sprinkle with toasted bread crumbs or toasted bread crumbs in a frying pan. And here it is, Sicilian-style pasta with broccoli.
