QUICK NAAN BREAD ORIGINAL INDIAN RECIPE, easy and quick to prepare, a typical recipe to make by hand with a spoon, without a mixer.
The quick naan bread is an Indian bread common in Pakistan, Central Asia, Iran, made with a mix of cereal flours with yogurt and baking powder in the dough, very simple and quick.
The recipe for quick naan bread is very simple; you can knead the ingredients by hand, let it rest, then shape into balls, roll them out, and cook in a skillet.
Naan means bread; it is typical of Indian cuisine, where these flatbreads are baked in Tandoors—bell-shaped ovens. At home, we’ll obviously use a pan.
In some versions, it is brushed with clarified butter, ghee, and sprinkled with parsley as I did. If you like it very soft, try adding an egg to the dough.

Ingredients
- 4 cups flour (mixed flours or all-purpose)
- Half packet Dry yeast (or instant yeast or baking soda)
- 2/3 cup Water (or milk)
- 1/2 cup Plain yogurt
- 2 teaspoons Salt
- 2 teaspoons Sugar
- 1 tablespoon Extra virgin olive oil
Tools
For a softer result, you can add an egg to the dough mixed with milk and add it gradually to the flour as you start kneading.
Preparation
If you don’t have dry yeast, instant yeast is perfectly fine.
For the original recipe, use a mix of cereal flours and all-purpose flour. I used double zero flour with semolina flour.
Pour the flours onto the work surface and make a well in the center.
Add the yeast, oil, and yogurt.
Knead well, and if needed, add more milk.
The dough will be slightly sticky but not overly so; place it in a bowl and let it rest for an hour, even if you used instant yeast.
After resting, divide the dough into 5-6 balls and roll them out on a floured surface.
Heat a pan with a bit of oil and cook each side for a few minutes.
To complete the original recipe, prepare ghee by melting 2 tablespoons of butter in a small pan and removing the foam on top.
The butter should be filtered, but it’s a bit time-consuming if you’re in a hurry; then brush the bread and sprinkle with chopped parsley.
Bon appétit
