QUICK PUGLIAN EASTER SCARCELLA sweet

QUICK PUGLIAN EASTER SCARCELLA sweet scented with lemon, simple to make, no rising required, typical recipe with egg, braided sweet.

A dessert I didn’t know, a Puglian recipe for Easter that I recommend trying for its simplicity and flavor, the Easter scarcella is easy, quick, and very good!

In addition to being aesthetically beautiful, it’s a simple sweet to make, soft shortcrust pastry scented with lemon, quickly made, and finished with a simple glaze and colorful sprinkles..

The beautiful Easter scarcella or also known as Cuddura will make a fine impression on the table.

A reader of mine, Angela, left me a couple of notes about this recipe that I am happy to add: “they are put on the table on Easter day as a centerpiece and then, alas, consumed at the end of the meal, by breaking them.”

With these quantities, you can make 3 scarcelle. I made 2, one large, the one in the photo, and a smaller one, so you’ll need 3 whole eggs for decoration.. Thank you, Angela

Quick Puglian Easter Scarcella sweet
  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Very cheap
  • Preparation time: 30 Minutes
  • Portions: 3
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Half packet baking powder
  • lemon zest
  • 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • 2 eggs
  • lemon juice

Preparation

  • Sift the flour with the baking powder, place it in a mound on the work surface, add the sugar and lemon zest.

  • Add the oil, the egg, and the milk a little at a time until the dough is soft but not sticky.

  • Knead the dough for about ten minutes.

  • Divide the dough into cylinders and braid them to form the scarcella, close into a ring, and then place the egg with its shell in the center.

  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F until the scarcella is cooked and golden, about 40 minutes.

  • Let it cool on a rack..

  • Prepare the glaze, place in the mixer, the powdered sugar, lemon juice, and the egg white and mix.

  • The coating should be light, so it’s best to add the powdered sugar a little at a time, but I liked it whiter.

  • Cover with colorful sprinkles.

    Bon appétit..
