Pears in red wine are one of the easiest and most scenic desserts to make that I know. Especially in autumn or winter, they are the perfect end to a refined and elegant meal. Here I propose a version enriched with cinnamon that you will surely like. For this recipe, you need a full-bodied red wine with intense flavors like Merlot. I honestly used what I had at home, so the color didn’t turn out deep red, but I assure you the taste is just as good. Let’s see together how to prepare them in the following recipe.

  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Medium
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 4 People
  • Cooking methods: Stovetop
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Autumn, Winter

Ingredients

  • 4 Coscia pears
  • 7 oz sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups red wine (Merlot or Barbera)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks

Tools

  • 1 Pot

Steps

Start preparing your pears in red wine by pouring wine, water, and sugar into a wide but shallow pot and let it cook for a few minutes until the sugar is dissolved, then add the cinnamon sticks.

  • Then start peeling the pears, cut them in half, remove the core but leave the stem, then place the pears in the pot and let them cook for about 20 minutes. When the pears are done, remove them from the heat and let the syrup cook for another 10 minutes or so.

  • At this point, the pears in red wine and the syrup are ready to be served, preferably if you let them cool slightly. Enjoy your tasting 🙂
