Ingredients
- Sliced Bread (1 package)
- Tomato Pulp
- 7 oz Cheese (spun paste)
- Oregano
- Salt
- Peanut Oil
Tools
- Pot
- Absorbent Paper
Preparation
Let’s prepare the bread crumb calzones together. First, cut the cheese into cubes. Use a spun paste cheese like caciottino, it is dry and doesn’t wet the bread too much.
Add a few tablespoons of tomato pulp. Not too much. Just a little is enough. It should coat the cheese without overpowering it. Adjust the salt, add oregano and a drizzle of oil.
Now let’s prepare the sliced bread. We need to moisten the slices so they can be rolled without breaking. Take a clean cloth napkin and wet it under running water. Wring out the towel and fold it with the bread slice inside. Open and gently dampen the other side too, this way the bread will be moist and manageable. Place the prepared filling just below the center of the bread slice.
Fold the slice over itself and apply slight pressure on the 3 open sides.
Use a round pastry cutter to create the half-moon shape. Check that the perimeter is well closed and let rest for 5-10 minutes.
Meanwhile heat the frying oil and when it reaches temperature, submerge the bread crumb calzones.
Just a few minutes per side to make them golden. To be eaten absolutely fresh!
