The frothy dessert with instant barley is a delicious preparation made with only three ingredients, in 5 minutes and requires no cooking. It’s a spoon dessert with a frothy, very soft texture that literally melts in your mouth. It contains no lactose, eggs, or added fats, and is completely vegetarian. The frothy dessert with instant barley is a valid and economical alternative to coffee cream; it’s the perfect dessert for all occasions and can be enjoyed at any time, as barley does not contain caffeine. It keeps well in the fridge and yields a lot.

- Difficulty: Very Easy
- Cost: Very Economical
- Preparation time: 5 Minutes
- Portions: 5
- Cooking methods: No Cooking
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Spring, Summer, and Autumn
Ingredients
- 0.53 oz instant barley
- 0.75 cup very cold water
- 2.65 oz sugar
Tools
- 1 Hand Mixer
Steps
The number of portions obtained with a single glass of water varies depending on the size of the cups or bowls used to serve them (the number of portions in the instructions refers to ice cream cups).
For the success of the frothy dessert with instant barley, it is necessary to use very cold water, bowls, and utensils.
Pour the sugar and instant barley into a bowl (also cold) and mix them.
Add the very cold fridge water and beat the mixture with electric beaters for 3 to 5 minutes (depending on the speed of the device) until you get a creamy and frothy mixture.
Pour the frothy dessert with instant barley into ice cream glasses or smaller cups or glasses (like the ones in the photo, perfect for a sweet mid-afternoon snack) and serve immediately.
The frothy dessert tends to become liquid again after a few hours in the fridge; by whipping it again with the beaters, it returns to a frothy and creamy state without difficulty.
Besides the frothy dessert, with this same recipe we can also prepare a spoon dessert with a more solid consistency, more like ice cream and that still melts in the mouth. It’s very easy; you just need to put the container with the frothy dessert already prepared, or the already filled cups, in the freezer, cover them well, and leave them for at least 1 hour….I assure you that my guests loved it, even those a bit more hesitant because they are coffee-dependent.
