Spiced Shortcrust Pastry Without Butter, Easy Recipe.

Spiced shortcrust pastry without butter is a fragrant and delicate preparation for cookies.

Scented with spices and with a warm flavor. Ideal for lighter desserts, for those who are lactose intolerant, for easy recipes, and when you want to experiment with more rustic variations.

By replacing butter with oil, you reduce the intake of saturated fats; the dough tends to have a less ‘buttery’ and more delicate texture, often ideal for more ‘rustic’ or homemade cookies or pies.

Star anise with cinnamon and orange zest complement each other: the orange zest refreshes, while the warm notes of the spices make the dough more harmonious and never cloying.

You can play with the doses, adding a pinch more orange zest for freshness, or a bit more spices for intensity.

A shortcrust pastry suitable for winter preparations that warms both the palate and the heart.

Steps for the Spiced Shortcrust Pastry

Grate the zest of an orange with a lemon zester

In a bowl add the flour, egg, a pinch of fine salt, sugar, peanut oil, honey, spices, grated orange zest, and baking soda or baking powder, and roughly mix with a fork or a spatula. Pour onto a pastry board and knead with your hands for a few minutes until you obtain a compact dough. It will have a more rustic appearance compared to regular shortcrust pastry.

Wrap it with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for half an hour.

After the resting time, the spiced shortcrust pastry is ready for making cookies or pies.

Storage of Spiced Shortcrust Pastry

The spiced shortcrust pastry can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days wrapped in plastic wrap.
