How do you usually eat strawberries? Plain? Sugared? With lemon? With wine? Have you ever tried them with orange? How about trying these orange-flavored strawberries of mine? 😊
Strawberries are the quintessential spring fruit. In our house, they are a crowd-pleaser.
Accustomed as I am to frequently hearing whining (yes, real whining from kids) about one fruit here and a vegetable there from either or both of my children (he doesn’t like this, she doesn’t like that, or vice versa, or neither of them likes both… 😂), oh, as soon as strawberry season arrives, I breathe a sigh of relief! Finally, we can all eat the same fruit together, smiling!
We often eat them plain. We like them. Occasionally, we indulge in strawberries with cream (I even have the recipe! strawberries with whipped cream 😃) while the ever-favorite classic strawberries with sugar and lemon remain popular with everyone.
But in my ongoing quest for new things and flavors, I began to sweeten strawberries with unrefined cane sugar, discovering that they pair beautifully. It adds a distinctive aftertaste to the strawberries, undoubtedly due to the molasses present in this dark and slightly moist sugar.
Is that it? you might ask. A whole article just to change the sugar?
Ahah! No, no, 🙂 the orange-flavored strawberries I’m showing you today have an extra flavor, which is simply my own orange powder, a direct result of my experiments with the dehydrator. Since I started drying oranges, a whole new world has opened up!
If you haven’t yet dried orange peel, you absolutely must! Click HERE and give it a try soon! 😉

👇 Here are some recipes with strawberries + the complete collection: 🤩
- Difficulty: Very Easy
- Cost: Inexpensive
- Rest time: 1 Hour
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: as desired
- Cooking methods: No Cooking
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Spring, Summer
Ingredients
- strawberries (ripe)
- unrefined cane sugar (muscovado)
- orange powder
Tools
- Bowl
- Small Glasses
Steps
Wash the strawberries.
👉 As you undoubtedly know, strawberries should be washed with their stems on and under running water; they should not be soaked as otherwise, they lose their nutrients.
Remove the stem and cut them into pieces, I usually cut them into quarters (but it depends on the size of the strawberry).
Place the strawberries in a bowl or dish.
Sweeten with unrefined cane sugar and flavor with orange peel powder, roughly in a 2 to 1 ratio, i.e., 1 tablespoon of orange powder for every 2 of sugar. Naturally, the ratio is subjective and can be adjusted to taste.
If you haven’t yet tried orange peel powder, you can naturally replace it with grated orange peel.
Let the flavored and sweetened strawberries rest for about an hour, preferably in the fridge.
The sugar will dissolve, the aromas of the orange and unrefined cane sugar will blend, and if the strawberries are well-ripened, a bit of sugary juice will form.Stir before serving.
Orange-flavored strawberries and sweetened with unrefined cane sugar make a great and healthy dessert after a meal, but also for a guilt-free snack or a children’s treat, or they can be used as an ingredient in a dessert or to enrich yogurt or kefir.
However you want to enjoy them, know that you’ll be getting a boost of vitamin C and, above all, good mood! 😀
Enjoy!
