Spider Web Tart with Oil Shortcrust Pastry

Yes! I was planning to make a tart with quince jam, but I didn’t imagine it would be a Halloween spider web tart! 😄
I wanted to try. And here it is! What do you think?

It is a spider web tart with a decidedly homemade look, made with oil shortcrust pastry, brown sugar, and a touch of durum wheat semolina, just to try. A tart that turned out really good because this oil shortcrust is worthy of respect. For me.
And then I filled this spider web tart with my always homemade quince and lemon jam that you have appreciated so much in recent days (by the way: thank you all! I’m very happy that you liked it!).

Considering the Halloween theme, maybe you expected a pumpkin jam, which, well, yes, would have been suitable, it’s true, but the quince jam is autumnal and turned out excellent. We liked it very much.

Browsing the web, you can see spider web tarts of all kinds and genres, and many are undoubtedly prettier than mine (fair is fair and it must be said 😅), but this is my spider web tart. I made it for my children, who said “BEAUTIFUL!” out loud when they saw it, and said “GOOD!” when we ate it! Therefore, the reasons are more than valid to consider it beautiful and good. And I highly recommend you try it!

If you want to try other tarts, which you can later transform into spider web tarts, here are some more ideas: 👇

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 30 Minutes
  • Portions: 8 Pieces
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Halloween

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup semolina
  • 1/4 cup corn oil
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • Half packet baking powder
  • to taste lemon zest
  • to taste milk (a little, if needed)
  • 1 cup jam (quince)

Tools

  • Bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Cutting Board

Steps

  • Combine the two types of flour in a large bowl and add the baking powder.

Make a well in the flour to pour the sugar, egg, oil, and a little grated lemon zest.

Mix with a fork to dissolve the sugar, then gradually add the flour.

Knead with your hands as you normally would for any dough. It is not necessary to work the dough for long; once the ingredients are combined, it’s ready. If necessary, add a little milk, 1-2 tablespoons at most.

👉 I immediately proceeded to make the tart. In my experience, oil-based shortcrust pastries are easier to work with without resting in the refrigerator. After refrigeration, the dough tends to crumble more easily, making the creation of decorations, especially the strips, a bit less convenient.

Roll out the tart base using about half of the dough.

Make a slightly raised edge with a dough rope to contain the jam.

Spread the base with jam and then proceed to create the spider web.

Create the spider web, it’s very simple: form dough ropes with your hands and lay them on the base over the jam, forming eight segments. Connect each segment with shorter ropes, slightly bending them. Seeing the photos, it’s clear how to proceed, right?

To make it more scenic, I also made the spider. It’s not perfect, but my kids loved it, so… it’s perfect! 😃

  • A bit belatedly (after we ate it!!), I realized that a nice dusting of powdered sugar would have given the spider web that touch… of a web, which might be missing, do you agree too?

But… do you want to try it in my place? Come on, go ahead, then send me the photo! I’ll publish it in the section My recipes made by you!!!
