There’s nothing better than a good Bolognese sauce. For me, it tastes like Sunday, festive days, and conviviality. I present to you my version, very tasty and perfect for dressing lasagna, pasta in general, or simply to lay on top of a well-toasted slice of bread.
I remember as a child, when my mom used to prepare it, I would always sneak up to the pot and with a spoon “steal” a bit of sauce to put on the bread: there was nothing better.
Come with me as we start cooking… Happy recipe, Giusi.

Ingredients for the Bolognese Sauce
With these amounts, I made a four-layer lasagna for 15 people.
- 2 Carrots
- 3 stalks celery
- 2 cloves shallots
- to taste Nutmeg
- 2.6 lbs ground beef
- 2 pork sausages
- 3.4 fl oz wine
- 3.1 lbs Tomato puree (2 bottles of 700 g each)
- to taste salt
Steps for the Bolognese Sauce
First, let’s start with the soffritto. Cut the carrots, celery, and shallots into very small pieces. In a large and very capacious pot, pour some extra virgin olive oil and place the chopped vegetables inside, letting them sauté for about 5 minutes. Stir often to prevent burning.
Remove the casing from the sausages, crumble them and add them to the pot along with the ground meat; add the salt and mix well. Let the meat completely seal and then deglaze with the white wine. After a few minutes, add the tomato puree, adjust the salt and also add the nutmeg. Stir well and cover with the lid, leaving just a small gap; let the Bolognese sauce cook over low heat for about an hour and a half, remembering to stir occasionally.
The Bolognese sauce is ready to be enjoyed, ideal for your lasagna, your favorite pasta, or your crunchy bruschetta. It’s a rich, fragrant, and truly irresistible condiment.
