New Year’s Toast (Savory Glasses)

A fun idea to use as a placeholder for the New Year’s Eve dinner or as an appetizer. To make sure they don’t fall, you need to toast the base well; it must be firm, otherwise they won’t stand. Let’s toast to health! CHEERS!!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 30 Minutes
  • Portions: 2 Pieces
  • Cooking methods: Toaster
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: New Year's

Ingredients

  • 1 cheese slice (cheddar)
  • 2 slices sandwich bread
  • 1 slice spicy provolone
  • to taste mayonnaise
  • to taste spreadable cheese

Steps

  • First, I recommend drawing the outlines of the flute on parchment paper and cutting them out. Mine are a total of 6.3 inches tall and the glass is 2.2 inches wide.

  • Do the same with the shape of the liquid filling the glasses.

  • Place the glass shape on the sandwich bread, cut the edges with a pizza cutter. Its height is 3.1 inches, width is 1.6 inches. I made two glasses.

  • In the other slice of sandwich bread, cut out 4 discs with a diameter of 2.8 inches

  • Do the same on the cheese slice and cut out the shape of the liquid. With one cheese slice, I made two shapes.

  • Now cut out many small circles on the slice of provolone. I made 18, they will be the bubbles of your champagne.

  • Put both the glasses and the round bases in a toaster or small oven. The glasses should dry, but not toast, whereas the bases need to be well toasted, so quite hard, otherwise the glasses will topple over.

  • Now insert two wooden skewers inside the flute, lengthwise. I cut it after inserting, but maybe it’s better to cut it before. They should protrude about two fingers from the stem of the glass so that they can be secured to the base.

  • All that’s left is to complete the flutes by spreading a little bit of mayonnaise in the central part of the glass, place the cheddar cheese slice on top.

  • Now put a dab of mayonnaise on each provolone circle and arrange them on top of the cheddar, as if they were champagne bubbles.

  • With spreadable cheese and a syringe with a star nozzle, decorate the top part of the glass, creating the foam.

  • Now fix the glass on top of two round bases, securely skewering the bases with the skewers. All that’s left is to wish you a Happy New Year!! CHEERS!!
