CHILI FLAVORED SALT

An extra touch to your recipes with chili flavored salt, perfect for seasoning fish, meat, vegetables, and even pizza. I’ve tried it and I assure you it makes it spicy to the right point. After giving you the idea of flavored salt for meats and vegetables, today it’s time for the one with chili peppers.

A seasoning that, like spicy chili oil, is very useful for adding the right spiciness to any dish. In short, it is used like any salt in all those recipes where the use of real chili pepper is expected.

It is not easy to indicate the exact number of chilies to use because they can be more or less pungent depending on the plant they come from. Mine are very small but very spicy, so I only needed a few.

Ingredients

  • 1.1 lbs coarse salt
  • hot chili peppers (fresh)

Tools

  • Mixer
  • Baking pan

Recipe

Chili salt: as easy as it is useful!

  • Attention: to make chili flavored salt, you need to take care to use gloves and not touch your eyes, mouth, and nose to avoid unpleasant itching.

Get only two ingredients: coarse salt and fresh hot chili peppers.

  • Clean the chilies with a damp cloth, dry them very well, chop them with scissors and transfer them with the seeds into a chopper along with the coarse salt, then start the mixer and chop everything finely at maximum speed until all the ingredients are pulverized.
Attention: while grinding, be very careful of the powder that comes out as it may be irritating to breathe (I used a mask).
Once ground, the salt will take on a pinkish color, which will then fade after cooking.

  • Now line a baking tray with parchment paper and spread the ground salt evenly over the entire surface. Set to dry in a preheated oven in a static mode at 194°-212°F for at least 50-60 minutes turning occasionally. Once turned off, leave the tray inside until the oven has completely cooled down.
During cooking, the salt tends to form balls; just crush them or blend them again in the mixer.

  • Did you see how easy it is to make chili flavored salt? Now all you have to do is fill your glass jars and use it at the first opportunity.
Great for use on meat, fish, bruschetta, pasta dishes, pizza, etc. What are you waiting for to try it?

  • Of course! You can make this recipe using directly dried hot chili peppers, in this case, you will just need to grind them in the mixer without using the oven.
If you have your own chili plant, after picking and thoroughly cleaning them, you can, in the summer season, dry them in the sun: just place them on a grill and cover them with a mosquito net, leaving them exposed to the sun for 2-3 days, remembering to bring them indoors in the evening.

Storage and tips

Storage: The flavored salt can be stored for several months in airtight glass jars, kept in a dry environment.
Tips: Depending on the chilies used (some on the market are more or less spicy), if your salt turns out too spicy, just add more coarse salt and grind again.
