Savory Pie with Mortadella
  • Difficulty: Very easy
  • Cost: Very economical
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 4 people
  • Cooking methods: Oven
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients for SAVORY PIE WITH MORTADELLA

  • 1 roll Puff Pastry (rectangular)
  • 1 1/2 onion
  • 3.5 oz mortadella (I use with pistachios)
  • 1 cup crescenza cheese
  • 2 tbsps Extra virgin olive oil
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • to taste Milk (to brush before baking the pie)

Tools for SAVORY PIE WITH MORTADELLA AND CRESCENZA

  • Chopper
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Pan

Preparation

  • Thinly slice the onion then place it in a pan with the extra virgin olive oil and gently stew it over low heat, adding a little water if needed.

  • Turn off the heat, let cool slightly, then add the crescenza in pieces and the mortadella cut into strips.

Salt and pepper everything in moderation.

  • Unroll the puff pastry and spread the filling on one half, then fold the ’empty’ part over the filled one.

  • Seal the perimeter well and use a toothpick to prick the surface here and there to prevent the savory pie with mortadella from puffing up too much!

  • Brush the surface with milk (or with a beaten egg yolk with milk) then bake in a preheated oven at 375°F for about 30 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.

  • Remove from the oven, let rest for a few minutes, then serve the delicious savory quiche with mortadella at the table!

    Enjoy your meal!

Tips and notes

I recommend a special first course like

the Green Balanzoni with Mortadella,

the savory roll with arugula and mortadella

and the potato cake with mortadella and scamorza!
