Savory Rolls with Sausage and Olives

Savory rolls with sausage and olives.

If you’re looking for an appetizer idea that disappears in a second, these rolls with sausage and olives are the answer. They are definitely rustic and flavorful, perfect for those who love bold tastes. They really prepare in five minutes using a ready-made pizza base, but the aroma they release in the oven is incredible! Come with me, let’s start cooking.

Happy cooking, Giusi.

Ingredients for Savory Rolls with Sausage and Olives

  • 1 roll of pizza dough
  • 2 sausages
  • to taste black olives

Steps for Savory Rolls with Sausage and Olives

  • Unroll the pizza dough on the working surface, leaving it on its baking paper.
Remove the casing from the sausages and crumble the meat with your hands or a fork, distributing it evenly and pressing it well on the surface of the dough.
Chop the black olives roughly and spread them over the meat layer.

Add a sprinkle of grated cheese if you want to give an extra flavor boost.

Start rolling the dough from the long side, trying to tighten the cylinder well.
Cut the roll into slices no larger than 3/4 inch; it’s essential they are not too thick, otherwise the sausage would remain raw inside.
Place the rolls on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 390°F for about 15-20 minutes, until the dough is golden.

  • I really love this recipe because it is so simple yet always rewarding. A hug and until the next recipe!

Storage and Variations

You can enrich the filling by adding cubes of provolone or scamorza, which will give a melty and smoky note.

If you want a spicy touch, add a pinch of chili pepper or use a spicy sausage.

As for storage, these rolls keep well in the fridge for about 2 days in a closed container.

I recommend always heating them in the oven or in an air fryer before eating, so the sausage will release all its flavor again and the base will become crispy.
