The cold has now arrived, and for me, afternoons are made of hot drinks. I usually prepare a nice cup of classic tea, red fruit tea, or lemon tea, accompanied by some cookies and a good book, but when Christmas approaches, I like to alternate with a delicious homemade hot chocolate. And you, have you ever tried to make it without resorting to the classic supermarket packets? After tasting this recipe, I’m sure that homemade hot chocolate will become your favorite.
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Cheap
- Preparation time: 2 Minutes
- Portions: 2
- Cooking methods: Stovetop
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Autumn, Winter
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 3 tbsps unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tbsps potato starch
- 1/3 cup sugar
Tools
- Whisk
- Small Pot
Preparation
To prepare the chocolate, start by sifting the potato starch and cocoa into a non-stick pot, then add the sugar.
Gradually add the milk, stirring with a whisk to avoid lumps. Blend well and place the pot over low heat. Cook for about 5 minutes until the chocolate starts to thicken. If you prefer it more liquid, add a bit more milk; if you want it thicker, cook for a few more minutes, stirring constantly and keeping the flame low to prevent sticking or burning at the bottom.
When it reaches the desired consistency, turn off the heat and pour the hot chocolate into cups, ready to be enjoyed.
Tips
Once poured into the cup, you can add more sugar if you prefer it sweeter.
Serve the chocolate with marshmallows, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of chopped hazelnuts to make it even more indulgent.
If you don’t have potato starch, you can substitute it with 2 tablespoons of cornstarch or 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour.
