The Sweet Puff Pastry Fish launches a new section “Crafting in the Kitchen”, where I will propose easy manual crafts, which I will then turn into recipes. I hope you like it and that it can be an inspiration for new ideas not only in the kitchen! Two cute and fun proposals to prepare with children for April Fool’s Day.
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Economical
- Preparation time: 20 Minutes
- Portions: 4 fish
- Cooking methods: Oven
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 1 puff pastry (rectangular, 245 g)
- 1 apple (small, 150 g)
- 8 teaspoons jam (of your choice)
- 4 sugar eyes
- 1.7 oz vegetable oil
- 0.8 oz orange juice
- 1 sheet gelatin sheets (2 g)
Steps
Slightly stretch the puff pastry to obtain a square with a side of 13.5 inches. Now divide it into four squares with a side of 6.7 inches.
Fold each square in half diagonally, make a slight indentation with a stick 1.4 inches from the diagonal creating a small border.
Now cut strips 0.8 inches wide up to the start of the border.
Open the square obtained like a book
Place two teaspoons of jam (I chose figs and plums) in the center of the square, on top of two or three apple slices.
Fold the strips inward, securing them at the square’s diagonal. Press the first strip to seal the border to prevent the jam from spilling. Fold the final triangle to create the tail.
Seal well by pressing the puff pastry along the diagonal with a stick.
Bake in the oven at 356°F for about 20 minutes on the third shelf.
For the procedure click here, but using the quantities in this recipe.
For convenience, here are the main steps: place a preferably iron bowl in the freezer with the vegetable oil for at least fifteen minutes, squeeze the juice of one orange, heat it in a glass, add the gelatin soaked in cold water into the juice. Using a syringe without a needle, draw up the juice and let a few drops fall directly into the oil, place the balls in the fridge for about fifteen minutes, then rinse them.
Here are the bubbles ready for your fish! Add the sugar eyes and make a dive into the sea!
