The Valentine’s Lovers Tart is an easy-to-make dessert, with a strawberry jam filling that makes it truly delicious. I drew the shape and figure on a sheet of parchment paper, which I then cut out. It’s not very precise, but I really liked the profile of the two lovers looking tenderly into each other’s eyes.

- Preparation time: 30 Minutes
- Portions: 4/5 people
- Cooking methods: Oven
- Cuisine: Italian
Ingredients
- 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cups cornstarch
- 4 tbsps butter
- 1/4 cups sugar
- 30 g egg whites (white of a small egg)
- 3 tbsps strawberry jam
- to taste red food coloring (if you want to make the jam redder)
- to taste food coloring (gel decoration pencil)
- to taste white chocolate (chocolate hearts)
Steps
On a work surface, place the flour in a well, add the softened butter in pieces, and start mixing. Now add the sugar, egg whites, and knead well. You should obtain a soft, pliable dough, easy to roll out.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about half an hour.
Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of about 1/4 inch. To maintain the same height, use two chopsticks on the sides of the dough as guides. Cut hearts approximately 6 inches wide and 4.7 inches high out of parchment paper, as shown in the image. I prepared them by hand, so they’re not perfectly shaped!
Place the parchment paper patterns on the dough and cut along the edges of the figures with a sharp knife or a pizza cutter.
From the remaining dough, cut a strip about 2.5 inches high to place around the edge of the heart that you’ll use as a base.
From the remaining dough, cut small hearts to finish the figure. Bake at 284°F for about 30/35 minutes. The slightly thicker base can be left for 5-10 minutes longer, while the smaller cookies can be left for a few minutes less. Check when they are golden, and they will be ready.
Fill the base with strawberry jam. If you want, you can make it shinier by adding liquid red food coloring, or leave it natural. Now place the other heart with the lovers, the shortbread hearts, and use the colored pencil to draw the strings of the heart-shaped balloons.
