Baked Ham and Swiss Chard Rolls

Children usually don’t like to eat vegetables (of course, there are exceptions), so I have to try to make them more appealing by hiding them in some other food. Here I used ham!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 20 Minutes
  • Cooking time: 20 Minutes
  • Portions: 2 people
  • Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 10.5 oz Swiss chard (already boiled)
  • 1 Egg
  • 5 teaspoons Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • to taste Pepper
  • 8 slices Cooked ham
  • 2.8 oz Cheese (melting type (like Galbanino))
  • to taste Butter (spray)
  • to taste Breadcrumbs

Preparation

  • Blend the previously boiled Swiss chard until it becomes a cream. If you want to make it more flavorful, you can sauté it in a pan with a little butter first.
In a bowl, mix the chard, egg, Parmesan cheese, and pepper.
Place a slice of ham on a surface, add some filling and a few pieces of melting cheese inside. Roll up the ham and secure it with toothpicks.
In a baking pan, spray some butter on the bottom and sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Place the ham rolls on top and bake for about 20 minutes at 392°F.
A few minutes before the end of cooking, sprinkle the rolls with a little grated cheese.

Notes

Usually, when I have some time, I pre-cook the chard and freeze it in food bags. Practical and quick.
For convenience and to avoid using too much, I use spray butter instead of stick butter. Feel free to use the latter.
