The Pizzhamburger is truly a tasty dish and can easily replace dinner or lunch as it’s quite hearty. You can speed up the preparation by using two 385g rolls of ready-made pizza dough. You can also use prosciutto or speck as a filling.
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Economical
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Cooking time: 20 Minutes
- Portions: 4 servings
- Cuisine: Italian
Ingredients
- 4 cups Re-milled durum wheat semolina
- 1 tbsp Dry yeast
- 1 cup Water
- 1 tsp Fine salt
- 2 tsps Olive oil
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 4 Hamburgers
- 8 tbsps Ketchup
- 9 oz Mozzarella (2 packs of 4.5 oz each)
- 12 slices Fresh bacon
- 4 slices Emmentaler
Preparation
Put some water in a glass and slightly heat it in the microwave.
Add the yeast and a teaspoon of sugar to the warm water, mix well and let the yeast activate (it will take a few minutes).
In a bowl, put the water, add the activated yeast, oil, flour, and salt, and knead well until you get a smooth and homogeneous dough. (If you prefer, you can also knead on a surface).
Form 4 balls and place them on a tray to rise, covered with a slightly damp cloth on top to prevent them from drying out (or even with a sheet of plastic wrap) and another dry cloth to cover everything.
Let rise for about 2 hours or until the balls have more than doubled in size.
Cook the hamburgers in a non-stick pan, then brown the bacon.
Roll out the dough balls with a rolling pin to form circles, put a light layer of ketchup, place the hamburger on top, 3 slices of mozzarella, and 3 slices of browned bacon.
Close the dough like a package, add a bit of ketchup on top, a slice of Emmental, and spread some bacon fat over the surface.
Bake for 15-20 minutes at 356°F
Notes
If you don’t have time and want to prepare the Pizzhamburger quickly, you can use a 385g rectangular roll of ready-made pizza dough. With each roll, you will prepare 2 portions, cutting it lengthwise in half.
If you prefer a longer rise, you can reduce the yeast content. If you let it rise for 4/5 hours, 3/4 grams will suffice.
You can also use prosciutto and speck as a filling instead of bacon, and you can also place a slice of Emmental on the surface, which will release less water than mozzarella.
