Cooked wine and ginger to treat a cold is my personal recipe that I recently tried. Knowing the effectiveness of cooked wine, however, I thought why not add ginger which is a natural anti-inflammatory? The result? To be honest, I definitely prefer my anti-inflammatory ginger tea and even better the ginger candies for sore throat and nausea. This cooked wine drink, similar to tea, seemed like medicine to me, but it is certainly beneficial. 🙂 The cooked wine used for my drink was a gift but it can be simply prepared. It can also be spiced with carob. In Puglia, during the Christmas period, it is used to dip the famous fritters we call “Pettole.” You put a little thick wine in as it becomes like balsamic vinegar, and dip them in. A true pleasure.
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Medium
- Preparation time: 1 Hour 30 Minutes
- Portions: 2
- Cooking methods: Stovetop
- Cuisine: Italian
Ingredients
- 1 l Red Wine
- 7 oz Sugar
- 1 stick Cinnamon (just one)
- 1 Nutmeg
- 2 Oranges (Use only the peels)
- 2 Cloves
- 0.18 oz Ginger (About 3 thin slices)
Tools
The tea cup with filter and lid is a great gift idea for tea lovers as it keeps the tea hot and the aroma does not disperse. The one I intend to gift my daughter can be found HERE
- Small Pan
- Cup with tea filter
- Strainer
Preparation
Pour the wine into a small pan with the sugar and add the cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and orange peels. Stir to dissolve the sugar with a spoon. After five minutes from boiling, turn off the heat and let it cool.
Strain with a strainer after an hour of infusion. I recommend adding the ginger towards the end, fifteen minutes before finishing, otherwise, it might have too strong a taste. Reheat the cooked wine and ginger drink before pouring into the cup for greater effectiveness.
Finally, drink the cooked wine and ginger tea in small sips before going to bed or during the day.
Cooked Wine and Ginger to Treat a Cold
Red cooked wine, by boiling, loses its alcoholic substances and so don’t worry, you won’t get drunk drinking a cup. 🙂 For those like me who are not used to this drink, I recommend diluting it as I did. Half a cup of water and half of wine. I hope this is useful for treating a cold for someone, but in any case, it certainly does no harm. 🙂
Drink one or two cups for greater benefit, preferably with cane sugar or honey.
