Today I wanted to try the quinoa flakes porridge with fruit, a protein alternative to the classic oatmeal porridge.
I was curious to try quinoa flakes, and having found Italian quinoa here I am.
I often talked about quinoa, a protein pseudo-cereal, but since it always comes from very distant countries, I didn’t consider it eco-sustainable. Indeed, South American quinoa does not safeguard soil biodiversity and depletes the land. Moreover, Andean quinoa (where it comes from) was food for the poor, now it has become food for the rich, so large farmers exploit fields, women, and children to produce as much quinoa as possible.
Please, let’s buy Italian quinoa, short supply chain, whole, controlled, certified organic, it exists!! It doesn’t have to fly from South America, it doesn’t pollute!!!
The quinoa flakes porridge is prepared quickly like the other. The difference between quinoa flakes porridge and the one with oatmeal? The taste, more intense of quinoa, is less mushy compared to oatmeal.
You can always prepare it like overnight oats, which means porridge that you soak raw in milk in the evening and then serve in the morning without cooking.
In this case, I cooked the quinoa flakes porridge for a couple of minutes because I added raisins and I preferred them softer.
Don’t limit yourself to using quinoa flakes only for porridge, but like oatmeal, you can add them to soups, or use them instead of breadcrumbs for coating meatballs before cooking.
I’ll add some recipes with quinoa for you;
