Perfect Classic Oatmeal Porridge

The simplest healthy breakfast there is, here it is: Perfect Classic Oatmeal Porridge.

How do you start your day in the morning? I usually do three sun salutations first thing to wake up better.

Perfect Classic Oatmeal Porridge

If I can, I continue with a little meditation or bioenergetic activation as Daniel Lumera teaches in the book Twenty-One Days to Rebirth.
Then I rush into the kitchen, sometimes the rice cream, prepared the night before, is waiting for me, which I just have to heat up.
Sometimes some delicious pancakes (usually on Sundays) or I prepare the Budwig cream, especially in the summer.
But I also alternate with some perfect classic oatmeal porridge like this.

I’ve been following the simple Jamie Oliver’s porridge recipe for many years, there’s a very funny video if you want to take a look. Jamie then fills it with maple syrup, sugar, honey… too much for my taste, but it’s fun to watch.

The Perfect Classic Oatmeal Porridge is simple because it’s water-based, you can also prepare it with plant-based milk or if tolerated, cow’s milk, but I like it light because between dried fruits and various delights it satiates just the same.
The porridge is a soup that traditionally English and Irish consume for breakfast, a balanced breakfast that fills you up.

With a porridge, you reach lunch without glycemic spikes that lead to further snacking. Porridge comes from Northern Europe, Russia, Poland, where barley and oats were cheap cereals that filled you up.
A couple of times a week I prepare porridge for breakfast, another version I recommend is the hazelnut porridge, soon also on this screen the chocolate porridge, very delicious.
In the summer, instead, I opt for overnight oats porridge, the soaked porridge without cooking.
The rule for quantities is always one to three, one part of oats and three parts of water and milk. Pinch of salt and then unleash your creativity with whatever you want to add. (in the first photo with ginger and cinnamon).
You can also make a savory porridge by adding vegetables, hummus, or whatever your imagination suggests to the usual base.

Remember, if you prepare your porridge with water or plant-based drinks, it’s better to also add yogurt or another protein source with the fruit for a complete breakfast.

  • Cost: Cheap
  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 1 large cup
  • Cooking methods: Stovetop
  • Cuisine: Healthy
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients for Perfect Classic Oatmeal Porridge

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (whole grain)
  • 2/3 cup water (or milk)
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons raisins
  • 3.5 oz fresh fruit (seasonal)
  • 1 tablespoon almond (or walnuts or hazelnuts)
  • 1 teaspoon rice malt (optional)

Tools

  • 1 Saucepan

Preparation of Perfect Classic Oatmeal Porridge

  • Pour the oats into a saucepan, add water or milk or the plant-based drink of your choice, and the pinch of salt, and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

In three or four minutes, the porridge is ready, you’ll see it become nice and creamy.

Now add whatever you prefer, trying not to overdo it with sugars, in fact, if you put raisins, that’s enough. Add plenty of fruit and some nuts for good fats.

Notes

If you have slightly large oats, I recommend giving them a quick blend to cook them faster.
