Non-Fried Apple Fritters

I love apples in all forms, but these apple fritters are truly spectacular. I made them for Carnival, but they are great for any party or just as a delicious snack. Plus, they’re so easy to make: they turned out great on the first try, and they disappeared in no time at home because my boys devoured them.

Fritters indeed, but not fried, as they are cooked in a pan without oil: just use a good non-stick pan or crepe pan. The batter recipe is similar to my Light Pancakes but slightly modified, as I increased the amount of flour to make the batter denser and added a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon. It’s really simple!

It takes less than 10 minutes to prepare everything, less than 10 minutes to cook, and even less to eat them: these apple fritters are fantastic both freshly made and warm or once cooled. Light and so delicious!

Ingredients

  • 2 apples (make 20 rings)
  • 1 egg
  • 2.1 oz flour
  • 3.4 tbsp skim milk (or unsweetened plant-based milk)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp powdered sugar
  • Total points = 10 WW points
  • Points per portion for 1 fritter = 0.5 WW points
  • Points per portion for 4 fritters = 2 WW points

Preparation

  • Break the egg into a bowl, add the brown sugar, sifted flour, and baking soda, cinnamon, and milk. Then, using a hand or electric whisk, beat everything well until you get a smooth and frothy batter. Pour into a deep plate and set aside.

  • Carefully core the apples using an apple corer, peel them, and slice into thin rings. The amount of batter specified will be enough for 20 rings from 2 medium-sized apples.

  • Heat a good non-stick pan or crepe pan on the stove. Once it gets hot, you can start cooking the apple fritters. Dip some apple rings well into the batter and carefully place them one at a time into the pan.

    Lower the heat a bit, and in less than a minute, try to lift the fritters from the bottom of the pan with a silicone spatula. As soon as they come off easily without forcing (or you’ll risk breaking the batter), gently turn them over and let them cook on the other side. The fritters should be well-browned, so if necessary, turn them over a couple more times to achieve the desired doneness.

  • As you cook the fritters, place them on a plate lined with kitchen paper and repeat with the rest of the apple rings.

    If there are batter residues in the pan, just remove them with a piece of kitchen paper, but be careful not to burn yourself.

  • And here our non-fried apple fritters are ready to be enjoyed!

    I recommend dusting them with powdered sugar only before serving, otherwise, the sugar will be absorbed, and of course, we can’t add more, can we? Otherwise, what kind of diet would it be?

  • As I mentioned earlier: I made them in the morning intending to have them for breakfast. I ate 4, and the rest vanished while I was on the computer checking that the blog photos came out well!
