Mashed potatoes is one of my favorite comfort foods. When it’s cold, you often crave warm and heartwarming food, so I thought of offering you my homemade mashed potatoes.
This dish is simple but generally very appreciated. We all know how to make it, but sometimes due to lack of time or maybe because they don’t know the recipe, some might prefer to buy it ready-made.
Slightly flavored with nutmeg, you’ll make my mashed potatoes again without any problems and with no difficulty. Very easy
- Cost: Economical
- Preparation time: 20 Minutes
- Portions: 4/5
- Cooking methods: Stovetop
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
Let’s see the very few ingredients we need.
- milk (1 1/2 cups)
- potatoes (1 lb 5 oz)
- butter (2 tbsps)
- fine salt (3/4 tsp)
- to taste nutmeg
Steps
We are ready to prepare it. Let’s go!
Take a pot and bring water to a boil. In the meantime, wash the potatoes thoroughly and as soon as the water boils, cook them with the skin on. Add salt and wait for them to be ready.
To know if the potatoes are ready, just poke them with a fork. If you can pierce them, great, get ready to drain them. Once slightly cooled, remove the skin.
Take the potato masher and start creating many strands. As you can see from the photo, I mashed them directly into the pot, which I will then place on the stove, to let the mixture go.
To the mashed potatoes we placed on the stove, add the salt, butter, milk, and a pinch of nutmeg.
Start stirring slowly over low heat. Mix all the ingredients in the pot well.
Slowly, our mashed potatoes will take on its fantastic creaminess. After 10 minutes, do a taste test. If you feel the right saltiness and perfect consistency, turn everything off and start plating.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the recipe, I placed it on the plate as a base for boiled octopus. Feel free to experiment with combinations that you like best.
