I prepared this simple orange tart for breakfast when I was craving a genuine, fragrant and uncomplicated dessert. It is a quick and easy homemade tart, with all the fragrance of fresh oranges, perfect for enjoying in the morning or as a snack.

This soft orange tart is ideal if you are looking for a pantry dessert that stays soft for days. The citrus flavor makes it light and never cloying, great also for those who love simple but flavorful desserts.

SIMPLE ORANGE TART

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour (The one you usually use)
  • 8 1/2 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • orange zest
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 3 oranges
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Steps

  • Wash the oranges well. Peel without the white part, cut the pulp into small pieces.
    Put everything in a small pot with sugar and lemon juice.

  • Cook over medium-low heat for 30–40 minutes, stirring, until it becomes thick, mash slightly with a fork if you want a smoother consistency.

  • Let it cool completely.

  • In a bowl (or mixer) work the flour and butter until you get a crumbly mixture, add the sugar, egg, salt, and orange zest.

  • Knead quickly until a dough forms, wrap in plastic wrap and let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.

  • Roll out ⅔ of the pastry and line the greased mold, prick the bottom with a fork, pour in the orange jam and level it.

  • With the remaining pastry, make strips and arrange them in a grid.

  • Static oven 350°F for 35–40 minutes, until golden. Let it cool well before cutting.
