Orange and Chocolate Porridge: The Breakfast That Will Change Your Mind About Oats
How many attempts does it take to fall in love with porridge? If you, like me, have always been put off by its texture, know that you’re not alone. After countless trials in search of a nutritious and filling breakfast, the real breakthrough happened with the Tiramisu Porridge. But it was the Orange and Chocolate version that revealed the true secret: porridge isn’t boring, it just needs to be pampered with the right ingredients!
The Energetic Combo: Vitamin C and Dark Chocolate
This version isn’t just a simple breakfast; it’s a burst of pure energy that will make your taste buds tingle. Genuine cuisine celebrates the union of superfoods and pleasure! Food as pure body nourishment obviously comes from the daily consumption of whole oats, preferably organic, for a constant release of energy and the care of your gut microbiota.
The citrus note of orange then provides Vitamin C, essential for the immune system during the cold months, giving a slight citrus hint to the porridge. The delicious touch of chocolate finally turns your breakfast into a “fit” dessert, full of flavonoids and good mood.
The Secret for an Irresistible Texture
The trick to loving porridge is playing with contrasts. If the mushy effect of oats has always bored you, add creaminess with melted chocolate or a crunchy part like hazelnut crumbs. The freshness of the orange balances the density of the chocolate, creating a perfect balance that will make you forget all past failures.

- 1 1/2 oz whole grain oat flakes
- 2/3 cup oat milk
- 1/4 cup orange juice (fresh)
- 1/2 teaspoon agave syrup
- A few slices orange (or tangerine)
- 1/2 oz 85% dark chocolate
Tools
- 1 Small pot
- 1 Wooden spoon
- 1 Bowl
- 1 Teaspoon
- 1 Juicer
- 1 Strainer
- 1 Knife
Steps
Making orange and chocolate porridge is really quick and easy: in a small pot, pour the oat flakes and add all the plant-based milk.
Squeeze a small orange, strain the juice and also obtain the pulp. Add them to the milk and oat flakes. Turn on high heat and bring to a boil.
Lower the heat and, stirring continuously with a wooden spoon, let it thicken slightly. It will take about 5 minutes.
Remember, it shouldn’t become mushy, just gain some consistency while staying semi-liquid. Turn off the heat and sweeten with agave syrup. Stir and let it cool slightly.
Now, ideally divide all the ingredients to create 2 layers: pour half of the porridge (about 4 tablespoons) at the base of a bowl. Add some slices of orange previously peeled and halved. Garnish with some of the chocolate previously melted in the microwave for 2 minutes at 750W or in a bain-marie.
Create a second layer with the rest of the porridge and another 2-3 slices of orange.
Finally, the remaining melted chocolate to finish off.
And voilà… the orange and chocolate porridge is ready to be enjoyed!

Storage
👉Porridge is best enjoyed immediately, which is why I recommend preparing it the same morning.
If you prepare it in advance, it keeps in the fridge for 2 days, in a glass jar with a hermetic seal, but add the chocolate and fresh orange slices only when serving. The acids in the orange could prematurely ferment the plant-based milk, altering the taste. However, oats continue to absorb liquids even during resting, so if the porridge is too thick, add a splash of hot water or plant-based milk and stir vigorously.
👉If you prefer it warm, use the microwave for 30 seconds or a pan on low heat. Then garnish
Tips, notes, variations, and suggestions
🟣For a real aromatic boost, toast a handful of chopped almonds with a pinch of cinnamon. The warmth of the spice will bridge the acidity of the orange and the intensity of the dark chocolate.
FAQ (Questions and Answers)
1. How do you avoid the “mushy” effect in porridge?
The secret is the ratio between liquids and solids and the cooking time. If you prefer a more defined texture, try Overnight Oats (no cooking), letting the oats rest in the plant-based milk and orange juice overnight in the fridge. In the morning it will be firm and velvety.
2. Why choose 85% chocolate?
If your goal is a fit breakfast, go for a dark chocolate at least 75-85%. Not only does it have less sugar, but its intense flavor pairs better with the acidity of the orange. Lowering this percentage, I recommend not sweetening.
