Vanilla powdered sugar is very easy to make at home: all you need is a powerful blender or a Thermomix, and in no time, you’ll have ultra-fine sugar with a delightful vanilla aroma. It’s one of many basic recipes that can be very useful in the kitchen.
To make it, I used the entire vanilla bean, both the seeds inside and the outer pod, so nothing goes to waste. But if you prefer a more economical alternative, you can use powdered vanillin.
Sometimes you need powdered sugar for a recipe and don’t have it at home. Don’t feel like running out to buy some? Here’s how to make it! With just two ingredients, sugar and vanilla or sugar and vanillin, you’ll no longer buy packaged powdered sugar at the supermarket.
This sugar is perfect for making shortcrust pastry or for dusting over a chocolate cake, an apple cake, or any other preparation that requires it. The vanilla bean will make your dessert special. Sure, it costs more than vanillin, but you can taste the difference!
Vanilla is natural, obtained from the pods of the vanilla plant, an orchid.
Vanillin is mainly produced artificially in a laboratory.
Whether you choose to use one or the other, you’ll get a great product. You can store it in a glass jar for a couple of weeks, and if it hardens, just blend it briefly and it will be ready to use again.
