Fig and Feta Rolls

in ,

The fig and feta rolls are delicious phyllo pastry bundles filled with a soft and creamy mixture of phyllo pastry with figs, feta cheese, and honey. I adore feta and really like figs; we’ve been picking lots of them in the countryside, so I wanted to combine these ingredients to make delightful sweet/savory rolls that were quickly devoured. To avoid turning on the oven in this heat, I cooked them in a pan (but of course, you can also bake them or use an air fryer), just a few minutes, and these delicious fig and feta rolls are ready, perfect as an appetizer, main course, or dessert!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 10 Pieces
  • Cooking methods: Electric oven, Air fryer, Stove
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Summer

Ingredients

  • 7 oz feta
  • 6 figs
  • 1 package phyllo pastry (10 sheets)
  • as needed honey
  • as needed extra virgin olive oil

Steps

  • The fig and feta rolls are very simple and quick to prepare. First, cut the feta in half, then into 6 parts, thus obtaining 12 pieces.

  • Clean the figs and slice them about a quarter-inch thick. Take a sheet of phyllo pastry and fold it in half lengthwise. On one side, place a fig slice, a piece of feta, a little honey, and another fig slice.

  • Fold the sides and form a roll, proceed this way to make all the fig and feta rolls, then brush them evenly with a little extra virgin olive oil.

  • Place the fig and feta rolls in a preheated non-stick pan and cook them for 3/4 minutes on each side, on all sides, and also on the closure side, to ensure evenness and crispiness.

Tips:

The fig and feta rolls can be stored at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for a couple of days. Obviously, in the fridge, they will lose some crispiness, but a quick reheat (in the oven, pan, or air fryer) will bring it back. You can also bake the bundles in a preheated oven at 350°F for 20/25 minutes or in an air fryer at 350°F for 15/20 minutes.
