The pan-fried soft buns are delicious and fluffy little pizzas without an oven and no yeast, to be filled with your favorite ingredients. Some time ago, I published the recipe for soft kissed buns, small closed crispy and delicious pizzas, now, because it’s hot to turn on the oven, I thought of preparing pan-cooked soft buns and the result was spectacular! Soft, golden, fragrant, and super tasty, these pan-fried soft buns do not even need to rise, make and cook them immediately, choose your favorite filling and try them right away, you can also cook them in the oven or in an air fryer, they are perfect as an appetizer, for an aperitif, a buffet or as a main dish, they will disappear in a flash!
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Inexpensive
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 8 pieces
- Cooking methods: Stovetop, Oven, Air Fryer
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1.5 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 packet instant yeast for savory preparations
- as needed extra virgin olive oil (for brushing)
Steps
The pan-fried soft buns without yeast are very simple and quick to prepare, first put the flour, room temperature water, extra virgin olive oil, salt, yeast in a bowl and mix with a fork and then with your hands, until you get a soft and homogeneous dough.
Divide the dough into 8 equal parts (a little less than 4 oz each) and flatten each piece to form a disc, slightly less than 1/4 inch thick, brush the surface with a little oil and fold in half.
Place the pan-fried soft buns in a non-stick pan, cover with a lid and let them cook for 8/9 minutes, on medium-low heat, turn them over and continue cooking for another 6/7 minutes.
The pan-fried soft buns without yeast are ready to be filled with your favorite ingredients, I made some “caprese” style with tomato and mozzarella, others with cream cheese, arugula, and coppata bacon.
Tips:
The soft buns can be stored, without filling, at room temperature for 2/3 days. If you fill them, keep them in the fridge. I still recommend storing them plain, and filling them just before or at the time of serving, if you want, you can also heat them for a few seconds in the oven, pan, or air fryer. The soft buns can also be baked in a preheated oven at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 minutes or in an air fryer, always at 390 degrees Fahrenheit, for about fifteen minutes. You can customize the filling with your favorite ingredients, cold cuts, cheese, vegetables, salmon, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, and so on.
