Snowman Rolls

The savory snowman rolls are an easy, quick, flavorful, eye-catching, and delicious Christmas appetizer. After the success of my beloved and widely copied savory snowmen on many websites, I wanted to create rustic little snowmen, in another version. I had a roll of pizza dough and made stuffed rolls, shaped like snowmen, ready in 10 minutes and so simple to make that you can even prepare them with your little ones, your children will have a blast making them with you! For the filling, I chose simple salami and cheese, but you can use any ingredients you prefer, smoked salmon, tuna, vegetables, cheeses, you name it, in any case, they will be a Christmas appetizer that cannot be missing from your holiday menu!

Ingredients

  • 4.4 oz scamorza
  • 3.5 oz salami
  • 1 roll pizza dough (rectangular)
  • 1 small piece of carrot
  • to taste milk
  • to taste black peppercorns
  • to taste pickled peppers (for decoration)

Steps

  • The snowman rolls are super easy and quick to prepare, first unroll the rectangular pizza dough and cut it into 3 parts, horizontally. Cut the first two strips into 4 parts and the third into 8 parts, thus obtaining 8 large and 8 small pieces.

  • Stuff each piece of dough with a little chopped salami and scamorza and close well, forming balls.

  • Take a small ball and place it on top of a large one, gently press to join them, thus creating the shape of a snowman.

  • Brush the snowman rolls with a bit of milk, create eyes and buttons with black peppercorns and make noses with a small piece of carrot (just cut a carrot slice and cut it into 8 wedges), press to attach them to the dough.

  • Bake the snowman rolls in a preheated oven at 392°F for about 20 minutes, they should be golden. Once cooked, create the little snowmen’s scarf with two pieces of pickled peppers.

Notes:

The snowman rolls can be stored at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for a couple of days. You can also prepare them in advance and bake them the next day. The filling can be customized with the ingredients you prefer.
