American-style fried chicken is a truly spectacular recipe. The recipe is very similar (I wouldn’t know if it’s exactly the same, having not tried the original) to the famous fried chicken from Raising Cane’s, an American fast food chain specializing in fried chicken. Its “chicken fingers” and their sauce are highly loved by all Americans (and beyond) and viral on the web. I don’t know how many recipes I’ve seen of people eating this chicken. So, I couldn’t help but try to make them at home (also at the suggestion of my niece Sofia), and here they are, in all their goodness. I’ve never eaten such good chicken in my life! Incredibly tender, juicy, crunchy, fragrant, and super flavorful, American-style fried chicken is truly fabulous, especially when accompanied by that little sauce… Oh my, what a delight! Ready to fall in love with it? 😀

Ingredients
- 1.3 lbs chicken breast
- 0.85 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon spice mix (recipe below)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Half teaspoon black pepper
- Half teaspoon salt
- 0.85 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon spice mix
- 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
- 1.4 cups all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cups breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
- remaining spice mix
- 0.5 cups mayonnaise
- 0.25 cups ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Steps
American-style fried chicken is very simple to prepare. First, cut the chicken breast into pieces (lengthwise, as if you want to make large strips). Prepare the spice mix by combining garlic and onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt.
In a bowl, put the milk, egg, one teaspoon of spice mix, and one teaspoon of vinegar. Mix everything together, add the chicken, and let it marinate for at least 3 hours in the refrigerator (even better if you leave it overnight or for a few extra hours).
Now let’s move on to the breading: in one bowl, put the milk, one teaspoon of spice mix, and one teaspoon of white wine vinegar. In another bowl, put the flour, breadcrumbs, cornstarch, the remaining spice mix, and baking soda, and mix.
Pass the chicken pieces first in the breading, then in the milk, and then again in the breading, making sure it sticks well.
Fry the American-style fried chicken in hot vegetable oil on both sides until golden. Keep the flame at medium-low to cook it well inside without browning too much, about 10 minutes.
Drain the American-style fried chicken on absorbent paper and serve it hot, accompanied by its sauce, made by simply mixing mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper.
Notes:
American-style fried chicken keeps in the fridge for a couple of days, but obviously, like any fried dish, it’s a whole different thing made and eaten fresh. If you like, you can also bake it in the oven or air fryer, drizzling with a bit of oil (at 392°F for 20-25 minutes), but the result won’t be the same.
