The savory sticks with yogurt and bacon are a super tasty, clever, and really delicious recipe. You loved my fabulous bacon crackers, and many of you asked if they could be fried, to which my answer was negative. So, I thought of creating a perfect recipe for an aperitif or as a starter and yes, I fried them 😀 The savory sticks can be prepared in 10 minutes and are no-rise, you make and cook them immediately, they are crispy outside, soft and tender inside, fragrant and super tasty, they don’t absorb oil while cooking, and to make them even more delicious, I accompanied them with a delicious yogurt sauce that’s finger-licking good!
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Cheap
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes

- Cooking methods: Frying, Oven, Air Frying
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All Seasons
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 0.625 cups plain yogurt (unsweetened)
- 3.5 oz bacon
- 1.75 oz grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt (level)
- Half packet instant yeast for savory preparations
- to taste spices
Steps
The yogurt and bacon savory sticks are very simple and quick to prepare. First, put the flour, grated Parmesan cheese, spices to taste (I added oregano, black pepper, and rosemary), yeast, sugar, and salt in a bowl and mix with a fork.
Add the egg and unsweetened plain yogurt to form a soft and compact dough, then incorporate the diced bacon.
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface, form a rectangle about 0.2 inches thick, then cut it in half horizontally and then into strips about 0.8 inches wide.
Fry the yogurt and bacon savory sticks in hot seed oil until golden, it will take about 5 minutes initially and then, once flipped, 3-4 minutes more, always keep the flame medium-low, they should brown while having enough time to cook thoroughly inside.
Drain the savory sticks on absorbent paper and serve them hot (but they are soft and delicious even cold), I accompanied them with a yogurt sauce, they are amazing!
Notes:
The yogurt and bacon savory sticks can be stored at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for a couple of days. Instead of bacon, you can also use speck, cooked ham, or diced salami. You can use either sweet or smoked bacon. They can also be baked in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 25 minutes, but they will obviously be less soft and more biscuit-like. In any case, before baking them, brush them with a mixture of water and extra virgin olive oil.
