The tuna peas are truly delicious! I had quite a lot of frozen peas and used some to make this recipe which, I assure you, is simple but really tasty. The tuna peas are flavorful and creamy, perfect as an appetizer, side dish, or main course, I added carrots and onions to make them more flavorful and they disappeared quickly, they are also great inside a nice sandwich or baguette, a fresh and oven-free dish, perfect for the summer, even for a Ferragosto lunch!
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Affordable
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 4-8 people
- Cooking methods: Stovetop
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 12.3 oz peas
- 1.25 cups water (or vegetable broth)
- 5.3 oz canned tuna (drained weight)
- 3 tbsps mayonnaise
- 2 carrots
- 1 onion
- 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1 lemon
- to taste salt
- to taste black pepper
Steps
● Tuna peas are very simple and quick to prepare. First, put the chopped onions and carrots, frozen peas, and water in a pan. Cover with a lid and cook everything for about 20 minutes.
● Once the water has almost completely evaporated, salt the peas, add the extra virgin olive oil and let them flavor for a few seconds. Set aside and let cool.
● In a bowl, place the drained tuna, mayonnaise, lemon juice, black pepper, and mix everything well. Then add the peas, carrots, and onions, and give it a good stir.
● Tuna peas are ready. I recommend not enjoying them immediately but letting them rest in the fridge for at least an hour so that they become perfectly creamy and flavorful.
Notes:
Tuna peas can be stored in the fridge for a couple of days. If you don’t want to add carrots or onions, you can omit them without any issues.
