  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: 30 Pieces
  • Cooking methods: Oven, Electric oven, Air frying
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients

  • 7 oz cream cheese
  • 3.5 oz canned tuna in oil (drained weight)
  • 1 onion
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (rectangular)
  • 1 egg
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • to taste sesame seeds

Steps

  • Tuna and onion puff pastries are very simple and quick to prepare; first, slice the onion into very thin slices (if you have one, use a mandoline) and season it with salt, pepper, and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.

  • Add the drained canned tuna, the cream cheese, and mix all the ingredients well.

  • Unroll the sheet of puff pastry, and fill half of it with the tuna and onion cream, close it, seal the edges well, and fold them inward.

  • Press the pastry to compact it well, brush the surface with beaten egg, make small holes with a toothpick, and cut it into 5 parts vertically and 6 horizontally, without dividing it.

  • Add a few sesame seeds and bake the pastry in a preheated oven at 392°F for 20/25 minutes, until golden brown on the surface.

  • Once cooked, separate the tuna and onion puff pastries and serve them.

Advice:

Tuna and onion puff pastries can be kept at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for a couple of days. I used golden onion, but red onion is also fine. Instead of classic spreadable cheese, robiola is also a good option.
