Puff Pastry Pizza Calzone

in ,

The puff pastry pizza calzone is a quick and delicious savory rustic dish, a savory pie shaped like a fried turnover with a creamy and oozy filling. When I’m short on time, energy, or enough food supplies, puff pastry is my favorite dinner saver, I fill it with whatever I have and solve the problem of what to cook. I often prepare the puff pastry pizza calzone, sometimes simply with mozzarella and tomato, or richer with cooked ham (as in this case) or other deli meats or vegetables. It’s delicious and super fast, less than 10 minutes and into the oven!

  • 7 oz scamorza cheese
  • 3.5 oz cooked ham
  • 1 roll puff pastry (round)
  • 1 egg
  • to taste salt

  • to taste oregano

Steps

  • The puff pastry pizza calzone is very easy and quick to prepare. First, drain the tomato pulp, then season it with oil, salt, black pepper, and oregano.

  • Unroll the puff pastry sheet, fill half with slices of cooked ham, scamorza cheese, and tomato pulp. Fold into a half-moon shape, seal the edges well, and fold them inward.

  • Brush the surface of the puff pastry pizza calzone with beaten egg, add a bit of oregano, and bake in a preheated oven at 392°F for about 20 minutes, until golden brown.

Notes:

The puff pastry pizza calzone can be stored at room temperature for a few hours or in the refrigerator for a couple of days. For a simpler and vegetarian version, omit the cooked ham. You can also replace it with other deli meats or vegetables as desired.
