Orange biscuits are very fragrant and tasty cookies without butter, with a creamy filling of orange marmalade. You know I love this type of sweet, and I couldn’t resist making a version with one of my favorite seasonal fruits. The orange biscuits are delicious, great for breakfast, a snack, or after a meal, very good on their own and perfect for dipping in milk, cappuccino, tea, or hot chocolate. They will delight both kids and adults!
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Cheap
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 10-12 orange biscuits
- Cooking methods: Oven, Electric oven
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: Autumn, Winter
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 1/2 tbsp orange juice
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- 1 packet baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 orange zest
- to taste orange marmalade
- to taste powdered sugar
Steps
The orange biscuits are very simple and quick to prepare. First, place the flour, sugar, baking powder, a pinch of salt, vegetable oil, grated zest, and orange juice in a bowl and mix quickly with a fork.
Add the egg and form a soft and compact dough ball. Roll it out on a floured work surface and shape it into a rectangle about 0.4 inches thick.
Spread a thin layer of orange marmalade on the base, leaving the edges free, and gently roll it up. Form a roll and seal the ends well.
Place the roll on a sheet of parchment paper and bake it in a preheated oven at 350°F for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown.
Once baked, let the loaf cool slightly, then cut it into slices about 0.8 inches thick, thus obtaining the orange biscuits.
Notes:
The orange biscuits can be stored at room temperature for up to a week. If you don’t have orange marmalade, you can use another jam of your choice or omit it for simpler cookies. Instead of marmalade, you can also add some raisins, chocolate chips, or nuts like almonds.
