Savory Star Wreath

in

The savory star wreath made with puff pastry is an easy, quick, and delicious Christmas appetizer that is prepared in just a few minutes with only a few simple ingredients. Trees, snowmen, and stars are Christmas shapes that must not be missing from our holiday tables, so I thought of preparing a kind of Christmas crown made of many crunchy little stars with a creamy filling. The savory star wreath is beautiful and delicious, perfect as an edible centerpiece as well. If you want, you can also prepare it in advance, and you will impress all your guests. It’s so easy to make that you can even do it with the little ones!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Economical
  • Preparation time: 15 Minutes
  • Portions: 1 Piece
  • Cooking methods: Oven, Electric Oven, Air Frying
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Christmas, Winter

Ingredients

  • 5.3 oz cream cheese
  • 3.5 oz cooked ham
  • 0.9 oz parmesan
  • 2 sheets puff pastry (rectangular)
  • 1 egg
  • to taste black pepper
  • to taste oregano

Steps

  • The savory star wreath is very simple and quick to prepare. First, unroll one sheet of puff pastry, spread the cream cheese over the entire surface, add a little black pepper, oregano, grated Parmesan, cooked ham, and seal with the second sheet of puff pastry, making sure the two parts adhere well.

  • Using 3 star cutters of slightly different sizes (large, medium, and small), cut out lots of little stars, trying to optimize the space to minimize scraps.

  • Take a bowl and turn it upside down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, it will serve only as a guide to get a perfect circle.

  • Place the largest stars around the bowl, slightly overlapping them, put the medium ones on top and then the smallest ones. From some scraps, make a small cord to place over the crown, creating the loop.

  • Brush the savory star wreath with the beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 392°F (200°C) for 25/30 minutes until golden.

Tips:

The savory star wreath can be kept at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for a couple of days. You can also prepare it in advance and keep it in the fridge, then cook it the next day. You can customize the filling with the ingredients you prefer, other cold cuts, salmon, tuna, vegetables, etc. If you have leftover stars or scraps, bake them separately (in the case of the stars you can serve them together, with the scraps you can make a sort of savory pie, putting them all in a pan and brushing them with the egg first.
