Savory Puff Pastry Christmas Star

in

The savory puff pastry Christmas star is a beautiful, quick, and delicious Christmas savory pie, a perfect appetizer for the upcoming holidays. With just one roll of puff pastry, you can prepare a tasty and eye-catching appetizer. I filled it with ricotta, pistachios, olives, and cherry tomatoes, in a vegetarian version, but you can obviously use any filling you prefer, including smoked salmon, tuna, or cold cuts, perfect also as an edible centerpiece!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Inexpensive
  • Preparation time: 10 Minutes
  • Portions: one savory puff pastry star
  • Cooking methods: Oven, Electric Oven, Air Frying
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: Winter

Ingredients

  • 7 oz ricotta
  • 3.5 oz scamorza
  • 1.75 oz grated Parmesan
  • 1.75 oz pistachios
  • 6 cherry tomatoes
  • 6 black olives
  • 1 roll puff pastry (round)
  • 1 egg
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper

Steps

  • The savory puff pastry Christmas star is very simple and quick to prepare; first, put the ricotta in a bowl (it needs to be dry, if you get it fresh, let it drain a bit before using it), the black pepper, grated Parmesan, crushed pistachios, and mix all the ingredients well.

  • Spread the savory cream on the surface of the puff pastry, leaving a couple of inches free along the edge.

  • Make 8 small cuts, as if you want to cut out slices, but without reaching the center. Take two small pieces of pastry close to each other and fold them inward to form a point; repeat this operation 8 times to get a little star with 8 points.

  • Decorate the center of the pastry with cherry tomatoes and black olives cut in half, and with cheese in small pieces, then brush the points of the savory puff pastry star with some beaten egg.

  • Bake the savory puff pastry Christmas star in a preheated oven at 392°F for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes:

The savory puff pastry Christmas star can be kept at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for a couple of days. You can also prepare it the day before and bake it the next day.
