The mini savory croissants made of puff pastry are rustic super quick and super tasty little croissants that you can prepare in just a few minutes, with few and simple ingredients. I’m thinking about simple and very quick Christmas recipes, and even though they don’t have a real Christmas shape, these stuffed croissants are perfect to prepare as a starter for Christmas Eve or Christmas lunch or dinner or on New Year’s days, but also for an aperitif, a party or a buffet. They will disappear in no time! The mini savory croissants can be made in less than 10 minutes and can be filled with the filling you prefer. I used spicy salami, mortadella, small pieces of Parmesan, green olives, and sun-dried tomatoes, but you can use whatever you want, smoked salmon, tuna, sausages, cheeses, or vegetables. With just one roll of puff pastry, you will make 32 pieces of mini savory croissants, but make plenty because they will never be enough!
- Difficulty: Easy
- Cost: Affordable
- Preparation time: 10 Minutes
- Portions: 32 mini savory croissants
- Cooking methods: Oven
- Cuisine: Italian
- Seasonality: All seasons
Ingredients
- 1 roll puff pastry (round)
- 1 egg
- as needed desired filling ingredients
Steps
The mini savory croissants are super easy and quick to prepare. First, unroll the puff pastry and cut it into 4, then into 8 parts, and then cut each of those into 4 parts, thus obtaining 32 strips.
Fill the base of each piece with the ingredients you prefer. I used some spicy salami, mortadella, pitted green olives, Parmesan, and sun-dried tomato. Do not choose ingredients that are too big, and don’t cut pieces larger than the base of the puff pastry triangles.
Roll each piece of pastry on itself, forming a small croissant, then place the mini savory croissants on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (you can use the one from the pastry), brush them with a little beaten egg, and bake them in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes.
Notes:
The mini savory croissants can be kept at room temperature for a few hours or in the fridge for a couple of days. You can also prepare them in advance and keep them in the fridge until ready to bake. You can also freeze them, either cooked or raw (they should be baked from frozen or reheated after defrosting). For the filling, use any ingredients you prefer.
