Dried Fruit Salami

in ,

The dried fruit salami is a delicious and very easy version of the classic Turkish chocolate and biscuit salami, made without eggs, sugar, and butter. No baking needed, just 5 minutes, and only 4 ingredients to prepare a very tasty but quite light sweet treat because it does not contain the ingredients usually present in this dessert. The dried fruit salami is also perfect to prepare for the Christmas holidays, at Christmas and New Year’s you will make a great impression with little effort and you can use the dried fruit you prefer: pistachios, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, peanuts, cashews, choose the one you like most (or the one you have) and quickly make this delightful sweet that will be loved by both adults and children!

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Cost: Low cost
  • Rest time: 3 Hours
  • Preparation time: 5 Minutes
  • Portions: 12-15 slices
  • Cooking methods: No baking
  • Cuisine: Italian
  • Seasonality: All seasons

Ingredients

  • 7 oz dark chocolate
  • 5.3 oz dried fruit
  • 5.3 oz biscuits
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • to taste powdered sugar (for coating)

Steps

  • The dried fruit salami is super easy and quick to prepare. First, put the dried fruit you prefer (I made a mix of pistachios, almonds, hazelnuts, and walnuts) in a bowl and crush it coarsely with a mortar pestle. Add the biscuits and crush them as well, leaving them slightly coarse (if you prefer, you can also use a food processor for this operation, but blend for only a few seconds).

  • Add the milk, melted dark chocolate, and mix all the ingredients well.

  • Transfer the mixture onto a sheet of plastic wrap placed on an aluminum foil sheet, compact it, form a salami, and wrap it first in the plastic wrap and then in the aluminum foil, sealing the ends well. Place the dessert in the refrigerator to rest for at least 3 hours so it firms up well and won’t break when cutting.

  • After resting, unwrap the salami, garnish it with powdered sugar to simulate the “mold” of classic salami, and slice it.

Notes:

The dried fruit chocolate salami keeps in the fridge for 3-4 days. I used dark chocolate, but milk chocolate is also fine. Instead of milk, you can use a plant-based milk or even water; in this latter case, the salami can be stored for more days.
