French-style fried bread and Nutella rolls, also known as French toast roll-ups with Nutella, are delicious and indulgent treats made with white sandwich bread or crustless bread, filled with Nutella, dipped in egg, and fried in butter. They can be prepared in just 10 minutes with very few ingredients.
These fried rolls are perfect for kids’ birthdays, parties, a breakfast or brunch, or if you have sweet-toothed friends over at the last minute, you’ll make them really happy by letting them taste these delights.
Serve the fried bread and Nutella rolls warm for a burst of flavor, but they are also delicious when served cold and will be liked by everyone.
For this recipe, I used Morato Nuvolatte sliced bread that I found in my DegustaBox of January ’23: “The new sliced Nuvolatte, with a delicately sweet flavor, are prepared with Italian milk and sourdough for a unique softness. “Soft as clouds,” they are a valuable source of fiber and a tasty, nutritious snack perfect for spreading with creams and jams.” (cit.)

Steps to Prepare Fried Bread and Nutella Rolls
You can use white sandwich bread, the soft type, which comes in long slices, so you’ll just need to cut them in half, or you can use crustless bread or even brioche if you prefer. During the holiday season, you can even use pandoro, panettone, or easter dove cake.
First, flatten the slices of white sandwich bread with a rolling pin.
Spread Nutella on each slice but don’t overdo it because otherwise, when you roll the slice to form the roll, it might all come out.
Then roll the slice of bread and Nutella without tightening excessively and place it seam-side down to prevent them from opening.
Proceed in the same way with all the filled rolls.
In a plate, beat the eggs with the milk using a fork, then dip the rolls, turning them well to coat them completely with the beaten egg.
Place a pan on the heat and melt the butter. Then cook the rolls, a few at a time, turning them often until they are well browned.
As the rolls are cooked, pass them in granulated sugar, turning them to coat them completely.
Place the fried bread and Nutella rolls on a serving plate keeping them warm until serving.
The fried bread and Nutella rolls are ready to be served warm but will also be excellent when enjoyed cold.
Ideas and Suggestions for Fried Bread and Nutella Rolls
If you like cinnamon, you might add it to the sugar before rolling the freshly cooked rolls in it.
Try filling the bread rolls with different fillings such as custard or cream cheese, or simply fresh spreadable cheese or jam, or peanut butter or any other cream you like best; every combination will be perfect for this preparation.
Freezing is not recommended.
